The Magic City Parrot Head Club was chartered in 2001 as part of the national organization, Parrot Heads in Paradise. We are a not for profit social club whose purpose is to bring together like-minded folks infused with the tropical spirit of Jimmy Buffett as well as his kick-back lifestyle, his music and his writings.
We desire to leave things a little better than we found them while having a BLAST doing it. We like to "party with a purpose" as we perform at least 4 community service projects.

Fourth Quarter Project 2011
The fourth quarter project for the Magic City PHC was a large donation to the Birmingham YWCA. Their staff was sooooo excited to receive all
the clothes and accessories for the young male and female teenagers who are so often forgotten at Christmas. Unfortunately the need was much
greater this year due to the extreme devastation caused by the tornadoes last April 27th. Mothers are given the opportunity to obtain several gifts for their children. Our donation included 27 winter coats, jeans, shirts, dresses, tops, jackets, shoes, purses, wallets, make-up, jewelry, cologne, fingernail polish, socks, winter gloves, hat and scarf sets. In addition to the $500 from the club's budget there were donations by fifteen members and another $105 raised as a result of the auction at the Christmas party. By shopping many great deals on Black Friday it is estimated that the value of our donation exceeded $3,000. Also several of our members helped with the Santa's Workshop last Saturday. What a joy to see all the smiles from the mothers knowing they could provide presents for their kids on Christmas morning.
Third Quarter Project 2011
This project, Feeding Frenzy, is our annual food drive when we ask folks to donate non-perishable food items that will be given to a local food bank. The club will purchase approx. $500 of items. We hope all our members as well as family and friends will support this project.
Second Quarter Project 2011
This project, MargaritaHAM, was our annual fundraiser for Alzheimer's of Central Alabama held on April 30th at the Fish Market Restaurant. We had a wonderful silent auction because of all of the fantastic items donated by so many local restaurants and merchants. A few members were able to help prepare the auction before the event which is a huge task. During the event we also had a 50/50 raffle and a tea cup raffle. So many of our members provided support during the event and the CalypsoNuts entertained us. As a result of this event we were able to donate $6,750 to Alzheimer's.
First Quarter Project 2011
This project was to support the homeless and battered women and their children who are in a structured support program to help them become independent provided by the Baptist Childrens Society. After a year long program they are allowed to go out on their own once they have met many goals. To offer our support to this program the MCPHC purchased 15 sets of dishes, 8 sets of sheets, mixing/storage bowls and four sets of utensils. Our members brought many other household items such as glassware, towels, pots and pans, dish towels, knives, can opener, coffee pot, toaster, kitchen utensils as well as bathroom tissue, cleaning supplies, napkins and paper towels.
Fourth Quarter Project 2010:
When I took our donations of over 500 items valued at well over $3,500 to Birmingham's YWCA I arrived at the same time the Fox 6 van did. Melanie Posey was there to do another story but after she saw all of of donations and heard our story, she asked for an interview with me and the Santa Workshop project team. Everyone was amazed and excited at all the things for the teens which included 18 winter jackets, jeans for girls and boys, shirts, blouses, shoes, hats, gloves, games, purses, lotions, body spray, underwear, and other accessories. Thanks to our members who donated or participated in auctions or raffles to earn over 2/3 of the money to purchase the items. The other third was from club funds. We also appreciate those members who helped with the Santa's Workshop event.
Third Quarter Project 2010:
The Feedin Frenzy project was again a huge success. With the donations of our members and from club funds we were able to purchase over 1200 food items valued at over $1,000. These items were donated to the Shelby County Salvation Army in Alabaster. When we arrived with two vehicles full of food there were only a few items left on their food pantry shelves. Thanks to everyone who helped and you should feel so special for helping so many people.
Second Quarter Project 2010:
The Magic City Parrot Head Club of Birmingham, Alabama knows how to "party with a purpose" and giving back to others. We are proud to announce that our seventh annual fundraiser, MargaritaHAM, was a success. Just over a 100 folks gathered at Fox and Hound to party with Jeff Pike and A1A for over 6 hours on the hottest day in May!! Even though the crowd was smaller than last year their hearts were bigger!!! As a result of our huge silent auction, a $2,000 corporate donation from El Paso, and the club's additional gift, we will donate $8,500 to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama!!! We appreciate all the support of local merchants and restaurants who donated so many wonderful things. I am so fortunate to have a dedicated board and members who gave their time and energy to make this event so outstanding. We will celebrate our success July 29rd by participating in a "parrot head" night at the local Barons baseball game where we plan to continue to promote our "party with a purpose" experience with more folks.
First Quarter Project 2010:
During the last six months we have been collecting food items, personal items, and entertainment items and sending over 20 "goody boxes" to a local National Guard Unit in Afghanistan. After getting positive feedback from the soldiers the board approved to continue to pay for the postage of additional boxes until our soldiers come home in October. Thanks to everyone who donated.
Fourth Quarter 2009 Project:
Our fourth quarter/Christmas project included a donation of over 200 items (valued at over $1700) including dresses, jeans/pants, shirts/tops, purses, jewelry, shoes, winter jackets, a few games, stuffed animals and toys to the YWCA Santa's Workshop for the greater Birmingham area. We focused on things for pre-teens and teens who we were told usually didn't get much donated for that age group. Several members donated money and with the club's $350 allowance for this project the MCPHC elves did alot of serious bargain shopping for over six weeks including working the Black Friday jungle to find deals at least 50% but as much as 95% off!!!!!!!
Wishing you and all your family a MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Third Quarter 2009 Project:
We continued our third quarter, Feedin' Frenzy, from September until the week before Thanksgiving which resulted in the collection and donation of over 1200 food items to Oak Mountain Mission Ministries a Shelby County food bank located in Pelham, Alabama. Donations came from our club members as well as obtaining grocery carts of food donations at our "tiki bar" stand at a local grocery store.
$8,000 Donation To Alzheimer's
The Magic City Parrot Head board reviewed the numbers for MargaritaHAM and approved our final total donation to Alzheimer's of Central Alabama to be $8,000. This amount is a combination of the $2,000 El Paso corporate donation, the $4,900 silent auction amount, a $100 donation from Margarita Grill, other individual donors and the club's donation. I want to thank all of you who attended this fundraiser, all those who worked before, during and after the event, those who invited their family and friends to attend our party, those who bid on the silent auction and who bought raffle tickets for Margarita Madness.
First Quarter 2009 Project:
The Magic City Parrot Head Club completed our first quarter community service project and took our donations to TEARS (The Emergency Animal Rescue Service) in Hueytown. There was approx. 700 lbs of pet food and treats, toys, food bowls, kitty litter and other supplies. We had the delivery covered by both CBS 42 and NBC 13. Thanks to everyone who brought items and for the support of Pet Supplies Plus in Pelham who gave us their donation box for February.
Fourth Quarter 2008 Project:
The board approved $400 to buy toys for the Shelby County Sheriff's Dept. Angel Tree Kids. With the toys donated by members we had 100 toys with an estimated value of over $1,000 including three bicycles from the club. Great job team!!!!!!!!
